The Lemon Cake was really lovely especially with loads of double cream!  The kids didn’t like it so much and are nagging me to make something chocolate…..all in good time, I say!  I found this recipe for Mexican Wedding Cookies and thought I’d give it a go over the weekend.

After many requests, next week I am going to make Nan’s famous Granny Salad.  This recipe is not written down anywhere and I think we all have slightly different ways of making it.   Mum, Cheryl, Jenn, Wend, if you have 5 minutes, jot down your Granny Salad recipe and post in the ‘comments’ after this post and we’ll compare recipes!  Does anyone know why we call it Granny Salad and where the recipe originally came from?

  1. Mine is made with boiled eggs, you make the dressing with the cooked egg yolks mashed with sugar, mustard powder and cream. The whites of the egg are sliced finely and mixed together with shredded lettuce. You then layer the salad, lettuce and egg mix, sliced tomatoes, sliced cucumber then pour the dressing over. How different is yours? I can’t remember where I got my recipe from, maybe my grandma, but it is a hit with the hubby!!

  2. My Granny Salad Recipe;
    3 eggs,(hard boiled and cooled),salt and pepper, 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard, 1/4 cup brown vinegar,1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 (300ml) bottle cream. Crumble yolks, add all other ingredients into a shaker, and shake really well. Pour over salad of shredded lettuce, tomato, onion,and cucumber, topped with sliced whites of eggs.
